PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device capable of preventing an image defect caused by the reduction of cleaning capability by maintaining the cleaning capability over a long period of time.SOLUTION: The cleaning device cleaning the surface of a second rotation body coming into contact with a first rotation body and rotated following the rotation of the first rotation body includes a cleaning member coming into contact with the second rotation body and rotated following the rotation of the second rotation body, to clean the surface of the second rotation body, a polishing member which comes into contact with the cleaning member, to polish the surface of the cleaning member and can rotationally driven without following the cleaning member, and a control part controlling the rotation of the polishing member. The control part can execute a polishing mode and a non-polishing mode and rotates the polishing member at such a predetermined speed that the peripheral speed of the polishing member at a contact position with the cleaning member does not become the peripheral speed of the cleaning member or less, to polish the cleaning member, in the polishing mode. |
