1. A method comprising:
providing a first type of power from a switch to a remote power consuming device, the first type of power configured to provide power to a communications module of the power consuming device; testing an integrity of a cable connecting the switch and the remote power consuming device; and providing a second type of power via the cable when the handshake operation is successful and a result of the testing indicates cable integrity sufficient for the second type of power to be applied. |
