[Also in Divisions B5, E1 and F2] Two facing surfaces of a structural element are corrugated, the corrugations of one surface crossing the corrugations of the other surface and being used to accommodate bars and/or a liquid-setting material to provide connections between structural members. A sheet, Fig. 1, is provided with two parallel rows of similarly inclined corrugations 2 separated by a fold 3 and is bent about the fold 3 to form a beam, Fig. 4, having crossing corrugations 2 into two of which connecting bars 110, Fig. 7, are fitted having coaxial extensions over which a nut 12 or a sleeve is engaged for connection to another structural member. l-beams 13, Fig. 9, formed by back-to-back channels having corrugated bases spot welded together are joined at rightangles by bars 15 engaging the corrugations 2. The bars may be longitudinally grooved. Sheets 16, Fig. 11, have the corrugations 2 on flanges 17, 18 at their edges and the edge 17 of one sheet forms part of a channel 19 for containing the other flange 18. A separate channel may contain the two flanges to one of which it is riveted and in a further modification the separate channel is formed with the corrugations, the sides of the channel being connected by rivets and the edges of the flanges on the sheets being formed with diagonal slots to accommodate the rivets, Fig. 14 (not shown). In Fig. 15 building blocks 22 are joined by a liquid setting material in crossing corrugations 2 in the edges of the blocks. A reinforcement 25 is provided. A tube is formed by bending a sheet into tube form and engaging a flange 18, Fig. 16, at one edge in a channel 19 in the other edge. The flange 18 and the side 17 of the channel have crossing corrugations which are filled with liquid setting material. Tapered tubes may be made and fitted together to form poles. In Fig. 17 a beam comprises four corrugated angle members 201 spot welded together. Similarly constructed beams of angle, T &c. section are referred to. The corrugated edges of curved sheets 316 are secured between the flanges 108 of the angle members by bars such as 15, Fig. 9. |
