850,015. Nuclear fuel elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 26, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36775/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a gas cooled nuclear reactor, the fuel is compacted with graphite and supported in the tube. The fuel-graphite is formed in rings which are slidably mounted on a graphite rod, centrally located within a graphite tube, which is closed with graphite plugs at each end. The tubes are held together in groups of seven by graphite spiders at top and bottom, which engage the plugs. Longitudinal passages between the tubes allow the flow of coolant and the interior of each tube is vented, through the lower plug, for the release of volatile fission products. Specifications 833,647, 850,014 and 850,016 are referred to. |
