In a remote change speed control for a four forward speed and one reverse layshaft gear-box in a motor vehicle, the movements of a gear lever 18 are transmitted to the gear-box by a recuperative hydraulic system comprising a master piston 23, duets 25, 26 and a slave piston 29, for cross-shift, and a master piston 24, ducts 39, 40 and a slave piston 38, for gear establishment, and a recuperation chamber 1 feeds the ducts 25, 26, 39, 40 through respective spring-loaded valves 6, 8, 9, 7 which are normally held open by a spring and gravity loaded solenoid plunger 15 and are closed by their respective springs and any residual pressure in the system when the plunger 15 is raised by energization of its solenoid 14 in response to closing of a microswitch (not shown) when the gear lever is gripped preparatory to movement thereof. The short, lower arm of the gear lever engages superposed rectangular cages 21, 22 which respectively participate only in cross-shift (A) and establishment (B) gear lever movements and are respectively united to the master pistons 23, 24. The cross-shift slave piston 29 is rigid with a rod 30 having an arm 31 engageable with one of three shift rods 32, 33, 34. The establishment slave piston 38 carries a fork 37 engaging an arm 36 splined on the rod 30 for rotation thereof. Specification 735,664 is referred to.
