Invention uses the repelling forces of strong permanent magnets within a device containing both a sprocket chain and a spiral screw structure. Magnets on the links of the chain and one surface of the spiral screw force the chain link to move away. With gears, a fraction of the force rotates the spiral screw to maintain constant proximity between these two magnets. Each repelling region can produce a net linear force in excess of 200 grams. With a single sprocket chain and four spiral screws and 80 repelling magnet regions, a linear force on the chain of 16 kilograms can be expected. This device can be scaled to any magnitude by increasing the size of the chain and spiral screw to accommodate larger, stronger magnets, and by concatenating any number of these devices together. |
