A cartridge (31) is inserted into a receptacle (18) of a sample discharger (2) located in a sample discharge position. A sample material is injected into the cartridge using an injector. The sample discharger with the cartridge is moved to an elution position. An eluent is injected into the cartridge by the injector and discharged into an empty sample container (8) through a syringe needle (35). The cartridge, sample container and the injector are handled automatically. An independent claim is also included for sample preparation station for analyzer.
