[Also in Division E2] In a ball joint the clearance between the pin 2 and the socket 1 is sealed by a flexible disc 11 having its outer edge portion fixed to the outside of the socket and having a central opening through which the pin passes, the part of the disc adjacent the opening being deformed into a lip 7 which extends along the pin and the part of the disc between the outer edge portion and the lip extending across the clearance and being recessed within the mouth of the socket or within the confines of a ring 20 which clamps the outer edge portion to the socket. The disc may have an outer peripheral bead 9 and one or two inner beads 10 around the central opening, and may comprise one or a number of layers of material. |
