A thermosyphon light engine (100) and luminaire (600) including the same are provided. The light engine (100) includes a condenser (104), an evaporation chamber (102), and a connecting element therebetween (106,108). The condenser (104) returns a gaseous substance located therein to a liquid substance. The evaporation chamber (102) includes a solid state light source (112), a working liquid (120), and an optical element (110) that beam shapes light emitted by the at least one solid state light source (112). The solid state light source (112) is immersed in the working liquid (120), such that heat generated by the solid state light source (112) changes the working liquid (120) into a gaseous substance. The gaseous substance travels through the connecting element (106,108) to the condenser (104), which returns the gaseous substance to a liquid substance. The liquid substance then travels through the connecting element (106,108) back to the evaporation chamber (102). |
