In a regeneratively heated coke oven battery of the Becker type in which the crossover flues 14 connect sets of heating flues 12, each heating flue having a high burner 22 and a low burner 23, gas is supplied from a main 24 through three-way valves 29 to pipes 32, 33 and flues 19, 21 respectively supplying the high and low burners, and decarburizing compressed air is supplied in alternation with the gas from a conduit 27 and pipes 34 through the same pipe system. Cables 37 and 38 are connected by levers 39 to alternate pairs of valves 29 and the system shown controls the pusher side half of the battery, a similar system controlling the coke side half, Fig. 1 (not shown). During the whole of an " on " period heated combustion air from regenerators 17 passes through port and duet assemblies 18 controlled by air-port plugs 42. The gas/air system may also be applied to an underjet battery, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). The compressed air supply is not required for decarburizing the high burners 22 and their riser passages 41 with underjet batteries incorporating the known waste gas recirculation, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown).</p> |
