User registers implemented with routing circuits in a configurable IC

Some embodiments of the invention provide a configurable integrated circuit (“IC”). The configurable IC includes a set of configurable logic circuits for configurably performing a set of functions. The configurable IC also includes a set of configurable routing circuits for routing signals to and from the configurable circuits. During several operational cycles of the configurable IC, a set of data registers are defined by the configurable routing circuits. These data registers may be used wherever a flip-flop can be used.

1. A configurable integrated circuit (“IC”) comprising:
a plurality of reconfigurable circuits, each of the plurality of reconfigurable circuits for reconfigurably performing a plurality of operations in a plurality of reconfiguration cycles, wherein a first reconfigurable circuit is an interconnect/storage circuit that performs a storage operation during a first reconfiguration cycle and perform a non-storage operation during a second reconfiguration cycle, wherein a second reconfigurable circuit is an interconnect/storage circuit that performs a non-storage operation during the first reconfiguration cycle and perform a storage operation during the second reconfiguration cycle, and wherein the first and second reconfigurable circuits are communicatively coupled to operate as a data register during the first and second reconfiguration cycles.
