PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader capable of appropriately determining whether or not a foreign matter including metallic materials is mounted on a card insertion part, and suppressing the deterioration of productivity even when the ambient temperature of a metal sensor varies.SOLUTION: A card reader 1 includes: a magnetic head 7 for performing the reading of magnetic data recorded in a card 2 or the recording of the magnetic data in the card 2; a card insertion part 4 formed with an insertion port into which the card 2 is inserted; a metal sensor 21 for detecting that a foreign matter 45 containing metallic materials is mounted on the periphery of the card insertion part 4; and a control part. The control part calculates an amount of change of the output value of the metal sensor 21 each time a predetermined reference time passes, and determines that the foreign matter 45 is mounted on the periphery of the card insertion part 4 when the amount of change exceeds a predetermined reference value. |
