PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ionizer and a method of controlling the same capable of improving ion balance characteristics and the life of an electrode needle by uniformizing a degree of deterioration, such as corrosion and abrasion, of each discharge needle.SOLUTION: A polarity controller 30 comprises: a flag storage part 31a storing any one of flags i respectively allocated to a first polarity pattern for applying a DC high-voltage of positive polarity to a discharge needle 11 of a first group and applying a DC high-voltage of negative polarity to a discharge needle 12 of a second group, and a second polarity pattern for applying a DC voltage of negative polarity to the discharge needle of the first group and applying a DC voltage of positive polarity to the discharge needle of the second group; a flag update part 31b rewriting one flag i stored in the flag storage part to the other flag i at switching from an off state to an on state or from the on state to the off state, of a power supply switch 2a; and a command part 31c making a polarity output part 20 output the polarity pattern corresponding to the flag i stored in the flag storage part 31a. |
