PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which includes an electrodeposition element and can control light transmissivity of the electrodeposition element.SOLUTION: An optical device comprises: first and second substrates arranged so as to be opposed to each other, the first substrate including a first electrode provided on the surface close to the second substrate, and the second substrate including a second electrode provided on the surface close to the first substrate; and an electrolyte layer held between the first and second substrates and including electrodeposition material containing silver. A DC voltage with a first polarity is applied to the electrolyte layer in a first period, and a voltage with the first polarity is intermittently applied to the electrolyte layer in a second period after the first period.
