A vibrational assembly for operative coupling to a surgical cutting element. The vibrational assembly receives a portion of the surgical cutting element and imparts vibration to the surgical cutting element within a single plane. In combination, the vibrational assembly and the surgical cutting element form a surgical cutting device.

1. A surgical cutting device, the surgical cutting device having a longitudinal axis and comprising:
an elongate housing having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface of the elongate housing defining a receiving space; a cutting element having a cutting portion and a shaft portion, wherein at least a portion of the shaft portion of the cutting element is securely received within the receiving space of the elongate housing; a vibrational motor secured within the receiving space of the elongate housing; and a power source operatively coupled to the vibrational motor, wherein the vibrational motor is operatively coupled to the cutting element within the receiving space of the elongate housing such that, upon activation of the vibrational motor, the cutting portion of the cutting element is configured to vibrate in a single desired plane.
