PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow individual measurement of branch optical fiber characteristics with only an extra-facility in PON (Passive Optical Network) type optical branch lines, and to allow the measurement even if a branch optical fiber length difference is shorter than 1 m.SOLUTION: A branch optical fiber characteristic analyzer pulses and multiplexes first and second test light different in a sign and a wavelength and makes it incident on a measured optical fiber, extracts return light by reflection of branch light fibers inside the measured optical fiber, extracts the first test light from the return light, detects the extracted first test light nu local light to acquire an optical beat signal, and receives the optical beat signal to measure stimulated Brillouin backscattering light generated in the first test light. In the measurement, when a minimum difference between respective lengths of N-core branch optical fibers from a branch point to the termination of the measured optical fiber is longer than branch optical fiber identification resolution &Dgr;L, the branch optical fiber characteristic analyzer measures the stimulated Brillouin backscattering light while changing the signs of the first and second test light and the local light to analyze characteristics of the branch optical fibers. |
