1. A ballast water treatment system (1) configured for treating seawater to be pumped out from a ballast water tank (51) of a ship, said ballast water treatment system (1) includes:
at least one backwashable filter unit (20) comprising:
at least two filter screens (25) accommodated in a filter chamber,a revolving drain (75) configured for backwashing at least one filter screen (25),an inlet (21) for ballast water to be filtered,a first outlet (22) for a primary flow of filtered ballast water,a second outlet (23) for a flow of filter backwashing water, a ballast water pump (10) configured to draw ballast water from a ballast water tankcharacterized in that said ballast water treatment system (1) and said filter unit (20) are configured for, during de-ballasting operation, backwashing at least one of said filter screens (25) by leading backwashing water away from said filter unit (20) via said second outlet (23) and a backwashing water conduit (60) interconnecting said second outlet (23) with a suction side of said ballast water pump (10) while maintaining a primary flow of ballast water from said inlet (21) towards said first outlet (22) of said filter unit (20), and in that said backwashing water conduit (60) returns said backwashing water to said inlet (21) of said filter unit (20) independently of said ballast water tank (51) such that filter backwashing water is circulated through said ballast water pump and said filter independently of the ballast water tank, and in that throttling means (62), configured to provide increased pressure within the filter during backwashing, are arranged after the first outlet (22) of said filter unit (20). |
