摘要 This invention provides a power conversion device provided with a smoothing capacitor, an input-voltage detection unit, a power conversion unit, and a control unit. The smoothing capacitor smooths a DC input voltage inputted from a DC power supply. The input-voltage detection unit detects the level of the input voltage. The voltage conversion unit converts the DC voltage that has been smoothed by the smoothing capacitor into an AC voltage and outputs said AC voltage to a power system. The control unit controls the conversion performed by the power conversion unit. The control unit has the following modes: a first operating mode, when the voltage level detected by the input-voltage detection unit is greater than or equal to a threshold, in which active power is outputted to the power system; and a second operating mode, when the voltage level is less than the aforementioned threshold, in which reactive power is outputted to the power system. The control unit determines whether or not the voltage level is greater than or equal to the threshold, and if it is determined that the voltage level is less than the threshold, the control unit transitions from the first operating mode to the second operating mode within a prescribed amount of time after the determination is made. A power conversion device that has a smaller initial charging circuit and a method for controlling said power conversion device are thus provided.
