The inner-circle or outer-circle symbol of a received 8QAM symbol set is phase-rotated, the set being bit-mapped by assigning one bit depending on whether the circle on a constellation mapping diagram is an inner circle or an outer circle, and by assigning two bits to each quadrant. The likelihood of a received QPSK symbol, as well as the likelihood of the two bits assigned to each quadrant of the phase-rotated 8QAM symbol set, are generated by QPSK likelihood generation. The phase-rotated 8QAM symbol set is phase-rotated to the first quadrant on the constellation mapping diagram and moved to a QPSK symbol mapping position, and the likelihood of the one bit assigned to the inner circle or the outer circle of the 8QAM symbol set is generated by QPSK likelihood generation. |
