PATIENT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM

A patient movement detector can receive inputs from position sensors, a thermal imaging camera, a video camera, and/or triangulation data. Based on one or more of these inputs, the patient movement detector can perform one or more of the following: fall prevention detection, bedsore prevention analysis, patient location detection, and patient walk test scoring. The patient movement detector can, for example, output a fall warning alarm, a bedsore warning alarm, patient location information, and walk test scores.

1. A method of triggering a medical monitoring alarm, the method comprising:
under control of a hardware processor comprising digital logic circuitry:
receiving, from a position sensor, movement data indicative of an orientation or rotation of a patient occupying a patient bed;receiving, from a thermal imaging camera, a baseline thermal image of the patient bed with the patient occupying the patient bed;receiving a second thermal image of the patient bed from the thermal imaging camera;determining whether a portion of the patient to which the position sensor is attached rotated sideways more than a threshold amount in the patient bed based at least on the movement data;determining a degree of change in thermal data between the second thermal image and the baseline thermal image; andtriggering an alarm responsive to determining that the patient rotated sideways more than the threshold amount and the determined degree of change in the thermal data.
