The invention relates to a procedure for coating a metal surface of a substrate, applying a sol-gel method, where the procedure comprises the following steps: formulation and preparation of a precursor solution of the sol-gel by dissolving commercial alkoxides and a water-soluble organic polymer in the presence of a catalyst; formation of a covering layer on the metal substrate by means of a coating procedure once the metal substrate has been cleaned; drying the resulting precursor solution of the sol-gel by evaporation of the remaining solvent; and sintering the covering layer applied to the metal substrate by heat treatment of the covered metal substrate.
