An anode for a cylindrical cell of an electrowinning metal recovery apparatus is described. The anode comprises a generally cylindrical, current distributing frame and a tubular anode member 20 which fits over the frame. The anode member provides the face of the anode and is in the form of a replaceable sleeve. The frame distributes electrical current evenly to various points on the inside of the anode member. The tubular anode member is preferably in the form of an expanded metal mesh 24 which allows gas bubbles 26, 41 to rise up a central column 47 of electrowinning fluid 42 within the anode for extraction. A module 80 for an electrowinning plant is also described comprising a group of cylindrical cells 70, each having an anode with a current distributing frame 10 and a tubular anode member 20, preferably of an expanded metal mesh. |
