Embodiments of the present invention disclose a data backup method, apparatus and system. The data backup method comprises: deleting duplicated data of an initial data file in a preset duplicated deletion domain, so as to obtain a file on which duplicated data is deleted; generating file reference information corresponding to the file on which duplicated data is deleted; and exporting the file on which duplicated data is deleted into a data area in a physical magnetic tape, and exporting the generated file reference information corresponding to the file on which duplicated data is deleted into a metadata area in the physical magnetic tape. By using the present invention, duplicated data of an initial data file can be deleted, and the file on which duplicated data is deleted can be exported into a physical magnetic tape, so that a function of deleting duplicated data is provided; in addition, because the cost of the physical magnetic tape used for storing data is low, thereby reducing the unit capacity cost of a data backup and filing system.
