1. An optical system for a semiconductor laser that emits a divergent laser light, the optical system comprising:
a lens with a focal length of greater than 10 mm and that can collimate the divergent laser light into a collimated beam having less than a predetermined divergence when the lens is positioned within a larger range of positions about a focal length of the lens; and, a frame assembled to the lens to hold the lens within the larger range of positions when the system is in a first range of temperatures; wherein the larger range of positions is at least 50 percent greater than a smaller range of positions that an alternate smaller lens having a same numerical aperture as the lens and smaller focal length can be positioned within to provide a collimated beam having less than the predetermined divergence. |
