To increase safety, a computer-implemented method for determining the position of a lift car in a lift shaft using a coding apparatus is proposed, wherein a section of the code tape (2) or of the bearing apparatus (7, 8) is recorded with an optical detection apparatus as a pixel image comprising pixels that is larger than the position marker, the pixel image is conditioned, the binary code is decoded by means of an algorithm and converted into a position statement, a checksum test on the position marker is performed, which is used to check the position marker for plausibility by forming a checksum using the binary code or the greyscale values of the position marker and comparing it with a prescribed value, a barcode or 2D code that corresponds to the at least one row that has also been recorded outside the position marker is computed from the decoded position statement using the reversal of the algorithm, and said computed barcode and/or 2D code is compared with the at least one recorded row. |
