Provided are a method and device for redundancy protection. The method for redundancy protection which is implemented in a first router includes: selecting, from the interfaces of the first router, only one active interface and several passive interfaces for a first protection group, and all the interfaces of the first protection group perform the function of distributing or receiving multicast flow; only activating Bidirectional Forward Detection Protocol of the active interface in the first protection group so that the active interface of the first protection group can establish interaction with the active interface of a second protection group, and all the interfaces of the second protection group are selected from the interfaces of a second router as spare interfaces of the first protection group and there is only one active interface in the second protection group; when detecting, by the second router via the active interface of the second protection group, that the active interface of the first protection group is failed, enabling all the interfaces of the second protection group to perform the function of distributing or receiving multicast flow. |
