<p>Disclosed are a multifunctional charging apparatus for a vehicle and a control method thereof. The multifunctional charging apparatus according to the present invention comprises: an external universal serial bus (USB) port connected to a device through a USB interface; a charging current recognition integrated circuit (IC) which acknowledges charging specifications of the connected device and controls such that a charging current is supplied according to prestored charging specifications; a power source which converts an inputted vehicle voltage to a charging voltage according to the charging specifications of the device and outputs the charging voltage; a short-circuit prevention circuit which disconnects the charging voltage, which is outputted from the power source, when an abnormal operation of the connected device is detected, receives the charging specifications from the charing current recognition IC, and supplies a current corresponding to the charging specifications of the connected device; a charging indication lamp which includes a current detection circuit, acknowledges whether the connected device is charged is acknowledged by the current detection circuit, and drives a light emitting diode (LED) according to the acknowledged result to indicate completion of charging of the connected device; and a unified control unit which, when an external updating device for updating the charging current recognition IC is connected to an external output port, performs communication with the charging current recognition IC and an updating function.</p> |
