A composite sheet made of plastic material, e.g. an organic polymeric material, comprises a layer of air-permeable plastic material to one surface of which is attached a discontinuous layer of textile yarns. Permeability is ensured by employing a plastic material containing small holes, or one which is discontinuous and supported on a backing, e.g. as described in Specification 788,547. Plastic materials mentioned are polyvinyl chloride compounded or not with other polymerized or co-polymerized vinyl compounds, nitrile rubber, butadieneacrylonitrile and butadiene-styrene rubbers. The textile yarns, which may be in fabric form, e.g. stuck together or woven, or applied as separate threads, may be of wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose, or nylon, alone or in combination, and may be attached continuously or discontinuously to the surface by an adhesive or by heating the surface. If separate threads are applied, they may be arranged in parallel or in intersecting patterns, and may be suitably pretreated, e.g. dyed or waterproofed. The threads may be arranged to give a loop pile effect, and the composite sheet may be embossed or printed. The other surface of the composite sheet may be supported by a woven or unwoven fibrous layer.</p> |
