<p>A collapsible helmet (1) for cyclists having an elongate, curved central portion (2) over the crown of a wearers head and a plurality of side portions (3). The central and side portions are connected by at least one flexible strap (4). In a collapsed position, the side portions stack and nest under the central portion (Figure 5). Ideally, the side portions are contained substantially within the volume of the central portion. The side or central portions may be formed by injection moulding. Ideally the flexible strap (4) incorporates a chin strap (5). The flexible strap may be stitched or adhesively bonded to the side and central portions, or may be bonded to these portions during the injection moulding process. The portions may be made of polyethylene, polystyrene or expanded polystyrene, polypropylene or polyurethane, rubber or silicone gel. The flexible strap may be made of polypropylene webbing, nylon, polyester, cord, or paper.</p> |
