<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate valve capable of preventing a seal material from being coming off from a valve body of a valve element with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: A valve element 15 is formed by covering a periphery of a valve body 19 with a seal material 20. In the valve body 19, a first seal material attaching groove 22 is formed in upstream and downstream side surfaces 19a and 19b at positions abutting against a valve seat and a second seal material attaching groove continuous to the first seal material attaching groove 22 is formed at a position abutting against a lower half part of a valve box inner peripheral surface. The first seal material attaching groove 22 includes a groove 22a opening to the upstream or downstream side surface 19a or 19b and a wide groove 22b wider than the groove at a prescribed depth position connected to the groove 22a.
