The present invention relates to a method of biometric identification of persons according to the hand, by which the shape of the hand is scanned, evaluated and compared with the database of hand shapes, whereas the three-dimensional (3D) shape of the hand is scanned, this is analyzed and a three-dimensional (3D) model of the hand is created, which is compared with the database of three-dimensional (3D) models of hand. The method is characterized by illuminating the hand by a broadcast light source (21) via a raster plate (22) on which at least one line is created. The line is projected in various positions onto the hand to thereby crating on the hand a projected line. The projected line is then scanned by at least one camera (20) whereupon 3D profile of the entire hand is composed by mathematical method from cross profiles of the projected lines for comparison with the database of 3D profiles. The invention also relates to a device for biometric identification of persons according to the hand comprising a pad and light source with a means for projecting a raster onto the hand and further comprising a scanning device (2) coupled with a control and evaluating unit. The pad comprises a positioning depression (1) in the shape of a hand. The positioning depression (1) comprises positioning channels (10) for individual fingers. The positioning depression (1) is completely situated in the field of view of the scanning device (2). A raster plate (22), with at least one line that is projected onto the hand, is assigned to the light source (21).
