921,459. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. May 8, 1959 [May 14, 1958], No. 15858/59. Class 38 (1). In a plug and socket connector comprising insulating housings 102, 103 each carrying plug or socket contacts, or a mixture of such contacts, the contacts are located in bores such as 104, 106 by shoulders 158, 160, Fig. 9, in the bores which engage respectively the rear edge of an inclined spiral strap 174 and louvres 178 on a spring sleeve 170 surrounding each contact. The contacts each have a tubular portion, such as 196, around which the sleeve 170 is disposed and provided with a T-shaped slot into which a tongue 172 on the sleeve 170 projects to locate the sleeve on the contact. In the case of the socket contact, this tongue resiliently engages the co-operating pin 150, when inserted, such pin being formed integral with and forwardly of its associated tubular portion. Rearwardly of the respective tubular portions, the contacts are crimped to conductors such as 166, 186. The housings may be attached to panels 142 by studs 138 integral with guiding and orienting members 132 . . . 135. A contact may be removed from its housing by inserting a cylindrical tool into the mouth of the associated bore so as to retract the tongue 174 and disengage it from the shoulder 158 whereupon the contact can be withdrawn rearwardly of the housing. |
