Cellulosic materials are dyed with dyes containing at least one water soluble group e.g. sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups and at least one group of the general formula <FORM:1034876/D1-D2/1> in which R and R1 each represent an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical which may carry other substituents e.g. halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups, the dye being applied at elevated temperatures in the presence of an alkaline reagent. The dye may be of the mono-dis- or polyazo type or anthraquinone or phthalocyanine types and may have more than one group of the formula above. The dye fixation is advantageously carried out by steaming at 98-103 DEG C. or by a dry heat treatment at 130-190 DEG C. The cellulosic material may be printed with a paste containing the dyestuff or impregnated with a solution of the dye before fixation. Blue, red, yellow, and grey colours are obtained. |
