A printing apparatus enabling prevention of unauthorized access from an external apparatus. The printing apparatus receives print data from an external apparatus through wireless communication, and determines whether or not the received print data has authentication information added thereto. When it is determined that the print data has authentication information added thereto, the image data is printed depending on reception of the authentication information from a user. Further, it is determined whether or not the level of security of an encryption method employed in the wireless communication is lower than a predetermined security level. When the print data does not have authentication information added thereto and when the level of security is lower than the predetermined security level, the printing apparatus restricts printing based on the received print data.

1. A printing apparatus capable of communicating with external apparatuses, comprising:
a reception unit configured to receive print data from an external apparatus through wireless communication; a first determination unit configured to determine whether or not the received print data has authentication information added thereto; a printing unit configured to print, when said first determination unit has determined that the print data has authentication information added thereto, the image data, depending on reception of the authentication information from a user, at the printing apparatus; a second determination unit configured to determine whether or not a level of security of an encryption method employed in the wireless communication is lower than a predetermined security level; and a control unit configured to restrict, when said first determination unit determines that the print data does not have authentication information added thereto and when said second determination unit determines that the level of security is lower than the predetermined security level, printing based on the received print data.
