A control apparatus of a direct injection gasoline engine in which an exhaust valve is provided with a variable valve mechanism, the control apparatus comprising operation state determining means for determining operation state of a vehicle, wherein, when it is determined by the operation state determining means that the operation state of the vehicle is changed from constant speed operation or deceleration operation to acceleration operation: valve closing timing of the exhaust valve is advanced, andfuel injection pressure is increased, wherein the increase in the fuel injection pressure is determined on the basis of the valve closing time of the exhaust valve, andthe increased fuel injection pressure is reduced as the advanced valve closing timing of the exhaust valve approaches a predetermined target value.
