A method (800) of performing distributed video encoding on an input video frame (1005), is disclosed. The method (800) forms a bit-stream from original pixel values of the input video frame (1005), such that groups of bits in the bit-stream are associated with clusters of spatial pixel positions in the input video frame (1005). The bit-stream is interleaved to reduce the clustering. The interleaved bit-stream is encoded to generate parity bits from the bit-stream according to a bitwise error correction method. |

1. A method of performing distributed video encoding on an input video frame in a sequence of input video frames, said method comprising:
forming a bit-stream from original pixel values of pixels of the input video frame, such that groups of bits in the bit-stream are associated with clusters of spatial pixel positions of the pixels; interleaving the bit-stream to reduce spatial correlation between adjacent ones of the pixels; generating parity bits from the interleaved bit-stream according to a bitwise error correction method, wherein a set of parity bits is generated for each bit-plane of the input video frame; encoding a first bit-stream containing the generated parity bits; and encoding the input video frame to generate a second encoded bit-stream independently of the first bit-stream, the first and second encoded bit-streams representing one of the input video frames. |
