BASE-T common mode testing in an Ethernet subsystem

Systems and methods are provided for common mode testing for a system using an Ethernet subsystem. The Ethernet subsystem generates test signals that can be introduced at various points in the system to detect the effect of noise introduced by various elements of the system. By introducing test signals at various points in a system, common mode noise introduced into the system can be more accurately determined.

1. A system, comprising:
a first transceiver, coupled to a first transformer, configured to generate a first test signal to be applied to a center tap of the first transformer; a first controller, coupled to the first transformer, configured to:
receive a first output signal generated by the first transformer, andanalyze the first output signal to determine a first amount of noise introduced into the first test signal by the first transformer; and a first connector coupled to the first transformer and to the first controller, wherein the first test signal is transmitted over a conductor coupled to the first connector when applied to the center tap of the first transformer.
