PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive system capable of performing events of "engine start" and "maintaining an idling revolution speed with fuel injection stopped" by a permanent magnet motor directly connected to a crank shaft.SOLUTION: A compact motorcycle includes an engine 1, a permanent magnet motor 3 directly connected to a crank shaft 2, and a control device 4. The motor 3 includes independently wound first and second coils 11, 12. When the engine 1 is started, the control device 4 activates the motor 3 by serially connecting the first coil 11 to the second coil 12. This makes it possible to generate torque necessary to start the engine by the motor 3 when it is started. Meanwhile, the control device activates the motor 3 by switching to a connection with only the second coil 12 after the engine 1 is started. This makes it possible to cause the motor to rotate in higher speed, thereby maintaining an idling revolution speed even after stopping fuel injection to the engine 1. |
