<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ionic liquid for successfully swelling or dissolving an ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer rubber (EPDM) and a method for swelling or dissolving EPDM.SOLUTION: There is provided a method having a step of contacting ionic liquid or salt composed of benzoic acid ion and quaternary ammonium ion having a C1 to 8 alkyl group with EPDM. As a method for contacting EPDM and the ionic liquid or the salt, there are a method for putting EPDM cut at the desired size into a container containing the ionic liquid and contacting both with heating at 100 to 240°C, a method for contacting EPDM under agitation of the ionic liquid, a method for contacting both under shear stress or under decompression or pressurization, and a method for contacting with combination of 2 or more above mentioned methods or the like. Figure 8 is a figure of mass change of EPDM in contacting various ionic liquids and EPDM, and IL-39 is a combination of benzoic acid ion and quaternary ammonium ion.</p> |
