<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device and a paper feeding method that suppress generation of multi feeding of sheets in the paper feeding device using an air suction belt and a handling member even under an environment where static electricity is generated.SOLUTION: A paper feeding device comprises: a suction conveying mechanism; a handling member for regulating a gap in a sheet conveyance path and performing handling of sheets; a handling member drive part for driving the handling member so that the handling member is moved between a handling position where the gap in the sheet conveyance path is regulated and a retreat position where the gap is increased; a sheet front end detection sensor; a multi feeding detection sensor; and a control part for performing normal control so that the handling member is positioned in the handling position when the conveyance of the sheet by the suction conveying mechanism is made possible and that the handling member in the handling position is positioned in the retreat position when a front end of the sheet is detected. When the multi feeding of the sheets is detected, the control part controls so as to perform special control by positioning the handling member in the handling position for a longer time period than the normal control.</p> |
