To make an electrolyser for the generation of hydrogen and oxygen highly flexible in terms of use, it is proposed that a drying unit be provided in which there is provided a multi-circuit heat exchanger (20) with a first circuit for the cooling of the hydrogen (H2) that is produced and a second circuit for the cooling of the oxygen (O2) that is produced, wherein the two circuits of the multi-circuit heat exchanger (20) have a common refrigeration circuit (27).
