An LED backlight module and a corresponding liquid crystal display. The backlight module comprises a backplate (1); a lateral backlight source comprising a backlight source substrate (3) and a plurality of light emitting diodes LEDs (4) provided on the backlight source substrate (3); a light reflecting plate (2) provided on the backplate (1); a plurality of light guiders (5) provided side by side on the light reflecting plate (2), each light guider (5) being provided with at least one light incident surface (50) and light emitting surface (51) and the light incident surface (50) of the light guider (5) facing the LEDs (4); a diffusion plate (6) provided above the plurality of light guiders (5) and facing the light emitting surface (51) of the light guider (5); and an optical membrane group (7) above the diffusion plate (6). The number of LEDs (4) can be reduced, and it is beneficial to the tendency of a narrow side for a liquid crystal panel.
