PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp including a mechanism for defending damage on an outer bulb due burst of a luminous tube made of quartz glass.SOLUTION: A metal halide lamp having a luminous tube made of quartz glass sealed in an outer bulb has, as a mechanism for defending damage on the outer bulb due to burst of the luminous tube, a shroud surrounding the luminous tube made of quartz glass, and a metal wire surrounding the shroud. The winding interval of the metal wire is dense at least in a range of ±2T from the chip-off part of the luminous tube when viewed in the lamp axis direction, where T is the diameter of the chip-off part of the luminous tube. |
