A method for providing contents to a digital video recorder using personal virtualization based on a cloud server include the steps of: generating an isolated personal virtualization layer in the cloud server; decrypting the contents, encrypted by using an encryption key, in the isolated personal virtualization layer (IPVL); and streaming the decrypted contents through a service layer (SL), separated from the IPVL.
