A method of controlling data communication in a communications network having a plurality of remote input units providing data and a plurality of subscriber units utilizing at least some of the data. The data from the remote input units may be formatted into a format suitable for subscriber units, and/or may be processed to be useful to the subscriber units. The formatted and/or processed data is then provided over the communications network to the subscribing units.

1. A method of controlling data communication in a communications network having a plurality of remote input units (RIUs) providing data and a plurality of subscriber units utilizing at least some of the data, the method comprising:
receiving the data at a central data server (CDS); forming a current value table (CVT) in the CDS, generated from the most recent data from the RIUs; generating a custom message derived from the data in the CVT for at least one of the subscriber units based on format requirements of the at least one of the subscriber units; and sending the custom message over the communications network to the at least one of the subscriber units.
