The present invention relates to a fail-safe method for a motor driven steering apparatus and, more specifically, to a fail-safe method for a motor driven steering apparatus, when a zero point of a motor position sensor is abnormal, entering a fail-safe mode to prevent a dangerous situation caused by motor oscillation and to secure stability. The present invention provides the fail-safe method for a motor driven steering apparatus, comprising: (a) a process of determining a motor oscillation of the motor driven steering apparatus while driving; (b) a process of acquiring a counter electromotive force of an actual motor and a measurement value of the motor position sensor when a motor output stops for a predetermined time and a steering wheel operates by hand in case of the motor oscillation; and (c) a process of recognizing the occurrence of a zero point abnormality of the motor position sensor, when a phase difference between the counter electromotive force and motor power is over a predetermined value, and performing a zero point adjustment of the motor position sensor. |
