PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries and a manufacturing method thereof which make possible to achieve both the thermal stability and a charge-discharge capacity at a high level, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery arranged by use thereof, and superior in safety and high in capacity.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises particles of a lithium metal complex oxide expressed by the general formula, LiNiCoNbO(where 0.05≤x≤0.35; 0.02≤y≤0.08; and -0.05≤z≤0.10). The lithium metal complex oxide particles are composed of secondary particles formed by agglomerations of primary particles. The secondary particles each have a spongy structure, and the porosity of the inside of the secondary particle is 15-70%. |
