The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for recognizing a vehicle ahead on the basis of a LiDAR sensor. The apparatus for recognizing a vehicle comprises a sensor providing point cloud data regarding a front object sensed by using a LiDAR, a shape determining unit analyzing the point cloud data provided from the sensor and determining a shape of the front object, a receive sensitivity analyzing unit analyzing a change in receive sensitivity of each point cloud provided from the sensor on the basis of the shape of the vehicle, a determination unit determining whether the front object is a vehicle according to changes in the receive sensitivity of each point cloud, and a detection unit recognizing and detecting the front vehicle on the basis of a determination result from the determination unit. |
