<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector and position detecting method for detecting the position of an object robustly. <P>SOLUTION: Based on the information of a first mode indicating an information source, a first position information estimating section estimates first position information. Based on the information of a second mode indicating the information source, a second position information estimating section estimates second position information. An information integrating section correlates the first position information and second position information with particle groups each of which is composed of a plurality of particles.
