<p>Isolation and purification of nucleic acids, preferably of short chain nucleic acids, from a nucleic acid containing starting material, comprises: (a) binding the nucleic acids on a nucleic acid binding support material, in which the raw material is contacted with the support material in the presence of a chaotropic compound and isopropanol, where the alcohol is present in a concentration of 5-40% (V/V), preferably = 32% (V/V); and (b) optionally eluting the bound nucleic acid from the support material. An independent claim is included for a kit for the isolation and/or purification of nucleic acids, preferably of short chain nucleic acids from the nucleic acid containing raw materials, comprising buffer and/or reagents for carrying the above method.</p> |
